Speed stacks, computer games, and savings

speed stacks

Days before school started, I already told my kids that computer games will no longer be allowed once school start, and that they can only play such during weekends. They agreed. And so every day after school, they resort to different kinds of games, the most popular of which is the speed stacks.

Speed stacking is beating the time the other player did by making different formation of the speed stack cups. This cups have holes in their center base to allow air to pass through thus stacking can be done with great speed. It’s fun to play and one’s reflexes are developed. The downside, just like any other famous toy, is the price. It is more than Php 800 pesos with just the 12 cups. It’s more pricey if you buy it with the timer and the mat.

I bought for my kids one set of speed stack cups only, without the mat and the timer. They improvised the mat and found a timer from the internet and that’s it. We were able to save without compromising their chance to enjoy such games. Plus the fact that they are able to share only one set is something else. When they were younger, sharing is difficult to instill in their minds especially when it comes to toys.

Now that computer games are only allowed on weekends, my kids rarely open their computers except to find answers for their assignments or for additional reading. I find the arrangement very comfortable. Why? With two desktop computers off on most days, it’s a great saving in electricity! And with both kids in school on weekdays, that equates to more savings not only in terms of electricity but also on snacks. My kids consume more food when they are at home and actively playing. :)
